Here's some of the events, we plan to attend this year
|
From the Time Attack Website We are pleased and extremely proud to announce that after months of planning, four competitors and their teams/cars from the UK Time Attack series will be shipping out to Japans famous Tsukuba circuit to participate in Time Attack at the Revspeed Tsukuba Super Lap event. This event is held by magazine publishers Revspeed in Japan and the cars will race against the clock alongside Japans finest Time Attack cars and tuners. Held at Tsukuba circuit on December 6th 2007, the event will mark the first time any UK tuner cars have visited Japan to race and it is anticipated as well as the actual teams, UK fans will fly out to Japan to support the UK teams in their plight to set a quick time at Tsukuba. Tsukuba is the proving ground for Time Attack in Japan therefore perfect for the UK teams to pitch themselves against the challenging circuit where the current record holders are HKS Japan with a 53.589 in their Carbon Evo 9 CT230R. The aim of the trip is the introduction of UK tuner cars to the Japanese market and to compare the differences between UK cars and Japanese cars to further promote the teams and of course the UK Time Attack Series. The adventure has been put together by the Time Attack Series with enormous help locally from Do-Luck Japan and Japaneseusedcars.com, both of whom are current UK Series sponsors who extended their help to make this happen and for their efforts we are extremely grateful and will supply local support in Japan alongside our good friends at Toyo Tyres who will be providing local tyre support for all UK cars. KNOCKHILL 1st JULY TIME ATTACK Round 3 of the Time attack championship heads north to the fabulous Knockhill circuit in Scotland. Time Attack originally from Japan, is a circuit based series to find the UK`s fastest street tuned cars. 35 invited drivers from the cream of the UK`s aftermarket tuners along with top private entries will compete against the clock to find the fastest car/driver combination "under time attack conditions". For more information on the series please visit Event Report - The first time attack round north of the border was a welcome addition to the calendar and we arrived to beautiful warm sunshine which lasted the whole day too! For those that don`t know knockhill is an undulating and twisty circuit that takes some learning. For that reason I was completing as many laps as possible, on session 3 however the front driveshaft broke and also seems to have broken the centre differential resulting in our first retirement of the year. |

JAPSHOW SANTA POD 25TH June 2006 RWYB
competition for Japanese cars only inc Pro Shootout, club displays and
club camping, evening entertainment, Jet Car, demo vehicles, traders,
sideshows, free grandstand seating and much much more. Tel: 08700 782828 Event Report - The first Japshow of 2006 brought a great entry list with 14 pro 4wd/rwd cars and 7 fwd pro cars, competition was going to be fierce. After 3 qualifying runs, Adrian was 4th with consistent 10.6`s and Tony was 7th with a 11.4 personal best. Both cars were running well and were well placed for the afternoon`s knockouts. Tony kept up well with more powerfull machinery and ran right through to the semi finals, where he suffered an unusual problem his plastic footrest popped off and got caught under the clutch, fluffing a gear change as a result! Tony was gutted, but finishing 3rd was an excellent result. Adrian had luck on his side and got a bye on round 1, then the supra of Steve Whitaker in round 2 which was the closest race of the day with Adrian just getting to the line by half a car length first. Round 3 was another bye, then the final against Kevin Huntley`s Supra, As the lights went green, both drivers were away quickly with Adrian marginally ahead, but his lead started to slip away at half-track when the power of the big Supra was starting to show, gathering more speed at the top end. At the finish line the cars looked absolutely side-by-side, but it was Kevin who had taken the win with a stunning 10.4 second run to Adrians 10.6. Well done to Kevin, a great result for us and Toyota too with the top three places overall Full race report at www.japshow.com |

SILVERSTONE 17TH JUNE TIME ATTACK Round 2 - June 17th (Sat) Silverstone (National) Round 2 of the brand new Time attack championship is held on the National circuit at the Silverstone Time Attack originally from Japan, is a circuit based series to find the UK`s fastest street tuned cars. 35 invited drivers from the cream of the UK`s aftermarket tuners along with top private entries will compete against the clock to find the fastest car/driver combination "under time attack conditions". The day consists of 2 practise sessions before the afternoon`s finale where all the cars get 1 warm up lap, 1 flying timed lap and 1 cool down lap...................and no second chances! The goal for each competitor is simple. To achieve the quickest lap on circuit whilst aiming for the lap record under Time Attack conditions. For more information on the series please visit Event Report - A very hectic 2 weeks beforehand was spent improving the celica with revalved shock absorbers and new spring rates along with revised geometry both front and rear and a change to some underbody parts to improve the handling was rewarded with a very much improved setup for silverstone. The car went well all day and although it was my first time driving at silverstone, I soon felt at home, the only 2 tricky areas were the 2 big braking points, at the end of the pit straight the celica was doing over 140mph and picking a late braking point was very important to a good lap time. The timed lap - started the warm up lap nice and slow bringing up both brake and tyre temps, and on to the flying start, down the pit straight at 140+, turn into copse and back onto the throttle - no probs, next straight there was smoke coming from the bonnet vent, shit what is it, the engine sounded fine, boost was fine, guages were ok and no warning lights, so I kept going, then the smoke was getting worse filling the inside, so I slowed slightly at the complex and the smoke subsided, so I got back onit and finished the lap. Turning off the track immediately afterwards and lifting the bonnet expecting the worst, revealed the dipstick had blown out and oil was hitting the turbo manifold, so was very lucky and no damage has been done. The lap was still very competetive at 1.04, only 1.2 seconds down on the leader and 5th overall. We also learn`t a lot more about the car and have some more ideas and modifications to be completed before Knockhill in 2 weeks time. |

ROTORSTOCK 3 Shakespeare County Race way 28/29th May 2006 The MRC Japanese Street Fighter Showdown. Run
What Ya Brung (RWYB)
Event Report - Normally a 2 day event for us, but this years time attack meant we were unable to get some setup / practise on the sunday, so an early start on the monday morning to get there and hopefully qualify in time for the main knock outs, First run and the car bogged in first gear and seemed to take forever to pick up, which it did and went on to its first ever 10 second quarter mile with a 10.87 at 134mph. Run number 2 - with an extra few hundred rpm dialed into the launch control which should exploit the grip of the new toyo tyres a near perfect launch saw the car on its way to a 10.63 quarter at 134 mph, the celica`s fastest time yet. Unfortunately the heavens oppened and the knockouts were cancelled. Official results were announced final after qualifying and we were 4th overall and 1st in the 4WD class |

ROCKINGHAM 28TH MAY TIME ATTACK Round 1 of the brand new Time attack championship opens at the superb Rockingham motor speedway. Time Attack originally from Japan, is a circuit based series designed to find the UK`s fastest street tuned cars. Adrian will be competing in the series and will be using the Fensport Toyota Celica in the 4wd class. For more information on the series please visit Event Report - Our very first time attack event in the new car and it went very well. A few days before the suspension was revalved by Tein and new springs were fitted, there was only time for a few road miles before the car was loaded and off to Rockingham. The first practise session was literally the first time the car was driven in anger around a bend and it handled really well, I was very soon comfortable in the car and felt the balance to be very good. The second practise session was about increasing speed and finding the limits, Overall the car was working well except the first corner off the main straight where the rear was getting nervous at well over 100mph, this was rectified by changing the rear wing angle to increase the downforce, there was only one lap left to check if it had worked and all seemed well. Time Attack - I was third out on track and took it fairly easy on the warm up lap deciding to save the tyre for the flying lap. The lap started well and led into that corner where I needed all the downforce, and I hesitated maybe a tad too long and lost a little time but the car was round safe and went on to a cracking 1.34 lap and fifth overall, a great first result considering the extremely high calibre of entrants. Looking forward to round 2 at Silverstone 17th June! |

SANTA POD 14TH MAY Redline Rumble Magazine Drag Racing RWYB There will be many trade stands & attractions The highlight of this show is it will be run as a Run What Ya Brung Drag racing Day, So will be a perfect opportunity to try your hand at drag racing or just spectate for the day. Please contact Santa Pod Raceway for further details. Tel: 08700 782828
Event Report - This was to be the first run for our brand new celica, which only ran for the first time on friday, mapping had gone well so it was decided to "be brave" and give the car a run, after all its the best way to learn...............isn`t it??? Qualifying - The car developed a problem with interference on the speed sensor and distributor signal wires which slowed progress throughout the day, the speed sensor problem upset the launch settings, and the distributor signals were causing the car to cut the ignition at 7,400rpm. The car was still going well and ran two 11.1 quarters. The knockouts started and round 1 was against Ron Kidell in his skyline, nothing like starting at the top! unfortunately Ron suffered a problem with a driveshaft which gave us an easy run, so the celica won its first race - albeit with lots of luck. Round 2 against Andy Forrest in his rapid subaru, who made a lightening start and a great run to beat the celica with a 9 second run to the celica`s 11.1. The Celica was 3rd and Andy went on to win outright. Overall the new celica was very well received by everyone we spoke to, sorry I was busy most of the day with the teething problems we encountered, they are now fixed and we hope to be deep into the 10`s very soon. Big thanks to Dave Rowe from Motec, for his help throughout the day!

TOTB Tour Arabia - 03/02/06 (Please note - date change)
Press Release TOTB Tour Arabia Modified & Streetcar event hits Umm Al Quain Drag Strip February 3rd 2006 will see the much awaited UK based modified and streetcar event Ten of the Best (TOTB) launch its official Arabian Tour at Emirates Motorplex in UAE. TOTB is the only street and modified car competition that allows highly tuned and ordinary everyday cars to compete together in extreme conditions, usually only associated within professional motor sport events. With an annual following in UK in excess of 20,000 spectators the TOTB event is THE crowd puller of the season with more press coverage than all other modified car events put together. The TOTB Tour Arabia 06 under the patronage of HH Sheikh Marwan bin Rashid Al Mualla, kicks off a series of events around the world that will focus its attentions on all things fast and furious, with a whole day of modified mayhem from dusk till dawn. Live Radio broadcast and special guest appearances as well as DJs will make sure the crowds are entertained throughout. Said Lex Akehurst, of X-Sport Events, If you like your cars powerful and want to drive real fast, this is the event of the year. Its up close and personal, and makes no apologies for being one of the most outrageous and challenging experiences you can witness, if you havent seen a TOTB event before, prepare to be educated. All types of cars and drivers will compete together, from high performance extreme machines, to everyday vehicles. This event lets you turn up in your normal everyday car, its open to everyone car clubs and Tuners teams, along with local individual entries. Invited champion cars from past TOTB events in Europe will attend, throwing down the gauntlet to the fastest cars in the Middle East and from around the world. Competitors will be running in 3 events, the quarter mile strip, handling circuit and a top speed run creating an even balance between big horsepower cars and versatile, well driven vehicles. Cars are usually split into classes to even up the playing field even 4x4s will have their own class. This year will see the new Sound-Off event where cars will compete for the ICE trophy and the Show & Shine trophy will be up for grabs as well as the coveted TOTB Arabia class trophys and of course the overall Championship. Said Zlatko Mulabegovic, Top Performance Magazine, when we learned about this event last year we were very excited to support it as an official partner, we believe we have a little something special here in the Middle East when it comes to the pride in our vehicles and we cant wait to show the world our highly developed cars and talent. With so many extreme motor sports events being planned at Emirates Motorplex over the coming years, we think this is the most ideal venue for the event. Tickets and entries are available from this weekend at F1NetCafe and Emirates Motorplex Dubai, so better get in the front of the queue to reserve that front row seat.
*********************************************
There are 4 cars entered from the UK to compete in the Middle Easts first TOTB event. We wish all of Team GB the very best of luck! Team GB Adrian Smith- Fensport Corolla Mick Begley- Jun Lemon Skyline Ron Kidell- RK Tuning Skyline R32 GTR Tim Webster- Skyline R34 NUR
Event Report - Ten of the best for me is just the best event on the calender and to get an extra one this year is like having 2 birthdays! To be invited to the first TOTB in Dubai is simply awesome. I would like to thank Sheik Marwan bin Rashid Al Mualla and the organisers of the event, for the opportunity to compete against some of the best cars in the Middle East. The cars started their 3500 mile journey south, on a very cold winters night in southampton docks way back in December, and arrived safely to 28 degrees of winter sunshine in late January. We arrived 2 days before the event and within hours were busy checking the cars at the Motorplex, The day before the main event was a setup and test day, and all went well. The format of this event was run slightly different to the UK TOTB, with all cars completing the handling track by 2.30 then on to the drag and top speed events as the temperatures dropped late afternoon. I found the handling track very tight and twisty, making it very difficult to keep the car on boost, but managed to set a good time on the first run of 36 seconds, the second run was much better through the last corner to get a 35.5. That was to be my 2 banker times and the 3rd run to be a bit of a wild card, all was well until half way when the car slipped an inch offline and the grip dissapeared in the sandy tarmac, so the run was aborted. The 35.5 run turned out to be a great time and good enough for 3rd overall and 8 points. Next two events Drag and Top speed are run together, and started just after 5, however the wind had blown a lot of sand on to the track, and it was near 7 before we run a slow recce run to check grip first, all seemed well, so a full run to check everything was ok before qualifying netted a 10.7. Qualifying was to be 2 runs, and our first run was a clean 10.7 and on to the top speed, I was happy with this as we were running high tyre pressure for the top speed section. The run was the 3rd fastest quarter mile which gave another 8 points and 2nd fastest top speed which was worth 9 points, so well pleased with an overall points total of 25 points, but where had I finished? well after much number crunching in the bar afterwards we knew it would be close but had to wait till the next morning for the organisers final tally...............Ron Kidell and I had tied on 25 points and as Ron had won the top speed overall he took the first place, well done to him, I was still extremely pleased with 2nd overall! Well done to all the UK cars, Tim and Mick finished 4th and 5th respectively and a huge congratulations to Ron for winning overall. Top Ten Overall Results - All Classes

ULTIMATE GT4 CHALLENGE DAY 29th & 30th October 2005
29th trackday 30th
Drag day organized by the GT4 Owners Club for members only Event Report - Saturday was fine and dry for the track day, the corolla was very busy and ran all day taking club members for single lap joyrides - great fun. Sunday - Drag day - started fine and dry, untill sign on then the heavens opened and the track was waterlogged. Tony went out mid morning for a qualifying run, only to find the trechorous track offered no grip at all, The celica was still spinning its wheels past half distance, and when he changed to 4th gear, the back end got loose and the car spun over the line backwards, it went on to complete three 360degree spins on its way to a bonfire way off to the left of the track, where it came to rest, thankfully Tony was ok and there was little damage to the car. His run recorded 89mph over the line backwards to claim 3rd fastest at the time. The car was promptly checked over and it was decided to wait and see if the weather would dry. Just after lunch the rain eased, I took the corolla out for a few recce runs, the first of which was wheelspin for the entire 1/4, after an hours wait the track was drying and on the 3rd run the throttle shaft broke jamming the throttle full open, the run recorded 136mph over the line, before switching off the ignition to kill the power. As the track was drying fast, it was decided to run the GT4 Challenge knockout competition. Congrats to Tony who was fastest qualifier, and went on to win the challenge outright, after a very eventful morning, just getting back in the car deserved a prize! Congrats to John Heaney who won the Fensport Shield for fastest privately entered car.

JAPANESE PERFORMANCE SHOW SANTA POD RACEWAY Sunday

Shootout, club displays and club camping, evening entertainment, Jet
Car, demo vehicles, traders, sideshows, free grandstand seating and
much much more. Please contact Santa Pod Raceway for further details. Event Report - This event just gets bigger every year, this years was no exception with 16 pro cars entered, it was gonna be tough. The qualifying went really well for Adrian in the Corolla who set a personal best of 10.39 to claim third place, it was an excellent acheivement in such company. Round 1 was against team-mate Tony in his celica, and he wasn`t gonna give up without a fight, the corolla ran to the finish with a 10.6. Round 2, was against Dan Wrench, who was looking increasingly dangerous in the Skyline, but the Corolla`s incredible consistency won the day to get through to the next round with another 10.6 Round 3, Semi Finals, aginst Gary Passingham in the GT-ART skyline, Gary just got the edge on the lights and went on to win with a personal best of 10.07 and the corolla had to play second best with yet another 10.6. Congrats to Gary who went on to win outright! |

TOTB IV Elvington Airfield, Nr York Sunday 31st July "This is the big one, everyone's building their cars for, expect some serious competition from a massive display of brute horsepower" Televised event sponsored by Redline Magazine There is 1/4 mile drag racing, Top Speed challenge over 1.2 miles, and Handling circuit tests to determine the best overall street legal cars in the UK. Spectators welcome. Event Report - We had been looking forward to this years totb since our clutch dramas of last year. This years event went without a single problem on the corolla. As the weather was cold and blustery in the morning, Adrian concentrated on the handling track and set a time of 33.2 seconds, which at the time was 6th overall, however the track warmed in the afternoon and the Corolla dropped to 9th. The Corolla`s tyre pressures and suspension settings were adjusted at lunch time for the drag and top speed runs, the best quarter to date came just after 3 o`clock when the sun came out warming the track and providing some much needed grip, The time recorded was 10.47 @ 142mph and was backed up by a couple of slightly slower et`s in the 142-144mph bracket, we were well pleased with that, and it gave us 10th overall on the drag strip. We also managed 185mph on the top speed run which was also 10th overall. Tony`s Celica set an amazing top sped of 179mph which must be a record for a GT4 with a 2 litre engine! The celica also ran well in the morning on the handling track and was 12th overall untill the track warmed later in the day. Next was some drag runs and the car was hampered by a gearchange problem and still ran 12.0`s. We can`t wait for next years event.

With top timing equipment find out how you measure up against the clock, your mates and some of the quickest cars on the road! We are entering our Corolla and 2 celica`s in the time attack Event Report - We had 3 cars entered in the time attack event. The day started off with miserable drizzle which looked like it would never dry, the first practice session was like driving on ice! The track was absolutely treacherous and there several competitors had spins and there were a couple of larger shunts with the barriers, we decided to take it easy, play safe and learn the track. The qualifying session in the afternoon started wet and was drying fast. Adrian`s Corolla was 4th fastest after the first run and was going well, but started to suffer fuel surge as the track dried out, losing power on the faster left hand bends, but recorded a time of 1min 14 seconds and claimed a place in the finals. Tim was going well with the front wheel drive celica st202, after a few lairy spins in the wet, he settled down to record a time of 1 min 27 seconds on his first track event. Tony`s celica gt4 was going well, but he was on normal road tyres and struggled to find any grip whatsoever, he slid the car around the track to record a 1min 25 second lap. The finals were held late afternoon and the track was now bone dry, layout was changed to a much longer and faster track, incorporating the main straight and grandstands, a 20 minute practice session was quickly underway, and the Corolla was suffering from fuel surge on 3 of the long left-handers, so we put all the fuel we had in the car. The format of the final was great, similar to F1 qualifying of old, a warm up lap leading into a flying lap then a cool down lap. Even with 3/4 of a tank of fuel, the car still suffered surge on the same 3 corners, which was frustrating, but managed a 1min 39sec lap, good enough for 12th - a great result considering the level of competition. Overall we really enjoyed our first competitive track event, and were happy with the results, knowing the cars were not ideally suited, they performed well, but with room for improvement, we are looking forward to next year`s GT Battle.

Event Report - We had both the corolla and the celica entered in this one, Tony`s celica was run at low boost due to having a brand new engine block fitted. The corolla was running well and despite the immense heat, 30 degrees +, it was coping well and running comfortably in the 10`s, our best was 10.7, which qualified the car in 5th place, which is important, when the knockout competition starts. Round 1, elimination against Dave Rowe (CRD Imprezza) who had an engine problem, resulting in a bye run. Round 2, against GT ART skyline which had a gearbox problem, resulting in a bye run. Round 3, against Andy Barnes (RE Worx RX7). Andy got the better start and was ahead until half distance when a gear selection problem became evident and the corolla reeled him in to take the win with a 10.7 run. Final, against CRD 1000BHP Supra, driven by Dee Ireland, Dee got a good start and so did I, both cars ran great quarters, with Dee ahead all the way and a superb time of 9.9, the corolla was not going to keep up with him, and managed a 10.8, game over, Congrats to Dee! The corolla ran very well all day long with no problems and to manage second, albeit with some luck for a change, in a very well supported event, it was a great day for us.

QUICKSHIFT DRAG RACING - IRELANDS PREMIER DRAG COMPETITION Enniskillen Airport, Northern Ireland - 12TH June 2005 We are making the 1000mile round trip, with our Corolla, to compete in Irelands Ultimate Drag Racing Competition. Featuring 200 of Irelands fastest Cars, D&H events the promotion company that brought you Simply sideways 05 are proud to bring you in association with Straightliners, Irelands biggest and best Drag racing event on the 12th of June 2005. This will be run on one of Europes top drag racing venues, Enniskillen airfield. It is our intention to provide Ireland with a show at this venue that is like no other ever seen in this country. The search will be on for Irelands fastest cars, and many other attractions.
Event Report - This was Ireland`s first real Drag event, and what a weekend! It was very well organized by DH events and timed by straightliners, The corolla was trailered over in time for a photo shoot and magazine feature by Modified Motors magazine on the Saturday, we also had a little play, setting up launch control and a few joy rides as well. Sunday was cold, very cold, and all our launch settings from the hot Saturday were far too high, way too much wheelspin on the first run, a few adjustments later and the corolla was running well in the 10`s with the best run of the day a 10.7 which qualified us in first place. The competition in the afternoon was soon upon us, and went very well until the final, against a quick subaru, I had a good launch and pulled second - then disaster -the input shaft stripped its teeth, I selected 3rd but was too far outside the power band to pull it, and the scooby went on to claim victory. Big thanks to Colm at TTEC (Ireland) for his support on the event, Mckinstry Motorsport for the loan of the trailer and also the crew at DH events who ran a superb first drag event. Looking forward to next years already!! |

Shakespeare County Race way 29/30th May 2005
The MRC Japanese Street Fighter Showdown. Run
What Ya Brung (RWYB)
Event Report - This was the second running of Rotorstock, and we were under no illusions of how hard it would be to defend our crown from the previous year. Packed with RX7`s, Skylines etc it was always going to be tough. Sunday was a practice day with the track fully prepared for a "hot hour session" for the top 32 cars, a good day to get the launch settings and get used to the lights before Mondays competition. Our last run of the day broke the rear differential, so a 200 mile round trip was in order to collect another that night. On return to the car, there had been an accident, breaking the front windscreen, after many phone calls, on a bank holiday Sunday, Silver Shield Windscreens (0800 587 7895) came to our rescue on the Monday morning, thanks guys. The replacement differential was also fitted. We had to wait 3 hours for the glue to dry on the screen, which made qualifying a little tight, only 5 mins to go we qualified second to Keith Cowie who set an amazing 9.3 quarter in his 1100bhp skyline, a European record! The knockout competition was a blur of skylines, interspersed with a couple of bye runs, then against Keith Cowie in the final, and I knew this was going to be the toughest race of the year so far, all I could do was concentrate on a clean launch and don`t make any silly mistakes, I gained a tenth or two off the line and Keith seemed to bog down, the corolla was ahead by eighth mile and as I pulled for 3rd the Skyline had regained its massive momentum and sailed straight by.......... 0.3 ahead by the line, well it was good while it lasted!!!! Keith won with a 10.2 against the corolla`s 10.7. A huge thanks to the Mazda Rotary Club, and all who organized the event, it was a great weekend and to finish second in such company was an honor.
